Terms of Use

The site encourages robust debate and we’re tolerant of dissenting views. The focus is on reasonably rational debate, the more informed by evidence, the better.

We will come down hard on pointless personal attacks, abusive, offensive or obscene language,  or language that  has the effect of excluding others. We’re not that interested in people who continuously assert a position in the total absence of proof. People who persist in that, will either be asked to desist, or have their comments deleted.

On the other hand, we welcome people who engage their brain when writing; 'trolls’ who persistently engage in mindless chatter are likely to be thrown off the bridge.

The site doesn't allow anonymous comments or posts.  Everyone must have a pseudonym which cannot be changed at will.  We collect IP and email addresses and have an active moderation policy. Ultimately we are responsible for comments put on the site and we will act against anyone who puts us at what we perceive as a legal risk.  At a bare minimum complainants should email our contact address with a link to the comment or post in question and explain exactly why they think it should be changed or removed and the legal basis (if any)  for doing so.

If we feel that a comment or post oversteps a legal boundary, violates good taste, invades the privacy of people outside the public domain, or goes beyond the scope of our site then we will we do something about it. Publishing false information is relevant to our decision, but stated opinion is not.

You agree to follow all applicable laws and regulations when using this blog. We recommend that you do not include your email address in any comment on the blog and you agree that any email address that is shown on the blog may not be used to transmit junk mail, chain letters, or other unsolicited bulk e-mail or used for any malicious purpose or any such thing that may breach the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.
